GOVERNMENT SPENDING IRRESPONSIBLE?

No generation has a right to contract debts greater than can be paid off during the course of its own existence. - George Washington to James Madison 1789.

"SERVANTS OF THE PEOPLE" BLOW ANOTHER $5.8 MILLION
WASHINGTON (AP) - A former Army scientist who was named as a person of interest in the 2001 anthrax attacks will receive $5.8 million to settle his lawsuit against the Justice Department.

The deal requires the Justice Department to pay $2.825 million up front and buy Hatfill a $3 million annuity that will pay him $150,000 each year for 20 years.

Our government failed us, not only by failing to catch the anthrax mailers but by seeking to conceal that failure, Hatfill's lawyers said in a statement. "Our government did this by leaking gossip, speculation, and misinformation to a handful of credulous reporters."

JUSTICE DEAF AS WELL AS BLIND?
People working for the Justice Department have an obligation to serve "the people" responsibly. "Leaking gossip, speculation, and misinformation" is not responsible. We, the people, have the honor to compensate Mr. Hatfill because our employees in the Justice Department forgot to be prudent with our money. Or did they simply believe that Justice was deaf as well as blind? - 2q(Jim)

A REMEDY FOR SELF-IMPORTANCE
It seems that a lawyer had a little bit too much to drink and on his way home rear-ended the car in front of him. The lawyer got out of his car, walked over to the driver of the other car and said, "Boy, are you in trouble. Im a lawyer!"The driver looked out his window and said, "No, YOU are in trouble. Im a judge."

A MESSAGE TO COX COMMUNICATIONS
A skeleton stands in the classroom where I teach a training class for emergency medical technicians. One day I found that someone had moved it over to a computer and placed its fingers on the keyboard.

As I sat at my desk, a student passed by and asked, "Computer been down long?" - submitted by Terry Bradbury, address unknown
